Google -- Getting Listed Fast
by Lin Ennis
A very fast way to get a new website listed quickly on Google.
- As soon as you buy the domain name and get it hosted, put some "content-rich" text up on the page until you can mount the entire website. For example, if you will be setting up a site about "organic gardening," write something like this:
My Organic Gardening Site is your premier destination for everything you need to know about gardening organically. You'll find articles, pictures, resources, testimonials and more! Bookmark this organic gardening site and return often. We've got your back!
Presence: Note there are two different expressions (forms) of the main keyword phrase "organic gardening." There's also a comprehensive description of what will be found on the site, thought it's listed in the present tense (Google no longer tolerates "under construction" pages). In addition, it appeals to "real life" readers, not just search engines.
Longevity: Google notes how long your site has been up, and for how many years you've purchased the domain name. Longevity factors into the Google algorithms. That's why it's important to put up some plain text (web spiders don't read pretty pictures or layout) as soon as possible!
- Set up a My Yahoo account and choose to have it monitor your website or blog site (whatever you'll be updating the most frequently!).
Here's the link: http://my.yahoo.com/ When you get to select what you want on your page, give it the URL of your website or blog. Then update that website or blog consistently (daily!) for at least 10 days. Check back on My Yahoo daily to see how it's picking up your site.
Following this one easy step, with a content-savvy predecessor, will get your site indexed faster than anything I know of.
Google loves fresh content, for the insatiable information lust of Internet accessors. Give them enough quality content (free) and Google will give you the world (of traffic beating a path to your door from page 1 for your search terms [keywords]).
